When brilliant brain surgeon Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr (Steve Martin) accidentally hits gold-digger Dolores Benedict (Kathleen Turner) with his car, he takes it upon himself to save her life using his own surgical technique. The two are soon married, but no sooner are the rings on their fingers than the marriage begins to fall apart. While honeymooning in Vienna, Hfuhruhurr is introduced to reclusive scientist Dr. Alfred Necessiter (David Warner), who practices some rather unorthodox procedures.

As The Man With Two Brains, madman Martin is just the guy to do it, Playing Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr, famed originator of zip-lock, screw-top brain surgery. The good doctor pines for his late wife - but slinky siren Dolores Benedict sashays into his life and changes all that. They're soon married but the truth quickly emerges: Dolores' beauty hides a calculating heart of stone. The situation is hopeless - until another brain specialist's oddball research offers a bizarre ray of hope. Anyone with half a brain will rejoice in the sheer lunacy of this sublimely sill farce.

I've never seen this movie, but Wikipedia's summary of the plot makes it sound so wacky and silly that I'm not tempted to watch it. But maybe I'm wrong and somebody can provide a recommendation that puts the movie in a different light. Steve Martin runs hot and cold when it comes to his humor, with All of Me (1984), Three Amigos! (1986) and Roxanne (1987) leaning toward the warm side. I found Roger Ebert's comment interesting. He gave the film 2 out of 4 stars, and wrote that despite the fact that he "never found Steve Martin irresistibly funny" . . . "it's a tribute to "The Man With Two Brains" that I found myself laughing a fair amount of the time, despite my feelings about Martin."
